As the "step" portion of the name indicates, it gives you a solid place to safely stand for everyday tasks, such as loading a roof rack, racking a bike or kayak, or washing the top of your vehicle. BumpStep also helps guard against dings, dents and scratches to your back bumper, protecting your vehicle from careless motorists, or in the event “the object in the mirror is closer than it appears”. it is everything it says it is
The step fit perfectly, looks good and works well as a step. I haven't backed into anything yet so I don't know how much of a cushion it would provide. I was disappointed it didn't come with a pin to lock it into place, but fortunately, I already had one. This will keep my Towing hitch clear and protected when I haven't got the tow bit in it. It makes it much easier to get in and out of the back of my pickup truck.
